Context
Schoolyard Social was an early-stage startup launching an app designed to help people meet in real life through shared experiences. The founders were preparing for public launch while still refining the product, partnerships, and revenue model. What they needed most was clear positioning, a credible public narrative, and a launch approach that supported momentum without overstating traction.
This is a common challenge for early-stage companies: the need to move quickly and generate attention while avoiding messaging that locks the company into a narrative too early or attracts press that doesn’t translate into meaningful traction.
The Challenge
- Translate an experiential, offline product into a clear, press-ready story
- Establish early credibility without hype
- Support founders balancing launch, partnerships, and product iteration
- Test earned media as a channel without over-investing resources
Our Role
Verida Partners worked directly with the founders as a strategic marketing and communications advisor, shaping positioning, launch messaging, and a disciplined PR approach aligned with the company’s stage of growth.
What We Did
- Developed the core brand narrative and positioning
- Clarified the value proposition for press, partners, and early users
- Wrote the launch press release and supporting messaging
- Developed founder talking points and interview guidance
- Identified a targeted list of media outlets aligned with the brand
- Distributed the press release and managed follow-up
- Built a coverage tracking framework
Approach
The strategy treated PR as a signal-setting tool rather than a growth engine. Messaging was intentionally restrained and flexible, allowing the brand narrative to evolve as the product matured and partnerships developed. The focus was clarity and credibility rather than volume of coverage.
Results
- Secured three earned media placements directly from the launch release
- Established a clear, repeatable messaging foundation for future outreach
- Provided the founders with messaging assets they could continue using across investor conversations, partnerships, and marketing
Why this matters for startups
This work demonstrates how earned media can be used strategically at an early stage — testing the channel, establishing narrative direction, and building foundational messaging assets without burning time or creating unrealistic expectations.
